CARY, N.C. -- The William Peace University men's soccer team faced Averett University in a USA South conference game on Sunday, October 1st. The Pacers fell to the Cougars 3-2 in a close battle. The Pacers drop to (5-5-1) overall and (1-3-1) in conference while the Cougars improve to (3-5-2) overall and (2-2-1) in conference.
Averett would take a late lead in the first half at the 39 minute mark on a goal from Huso Dukic. Nademe Tokhli would follow that up to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead at the 43 minute mark. Senior,
Seth Cranford would put the Pacers back in the game with a quick goal in the second half, while Senior
Chris Deleon would tie the game in the 62nd minute. Averett took back their lead one minute later as Cougar Daniel Surley hit the game winner making the final score 3-2 over WPU.
The teams were evenly matched offensively, both taking 13 shots a piece. Both the Pacers and Cougars played aggressively with the Pacers tallying 19 fouls, including two yellow cards and a red while the Cougars notched 13 fouls with three yellow cards.
WPU will travel to Berea, KY to face Berea College on Thursday, October 5th in another conference game. Berea is 0-9 on the season and 0-5 in the conference.
