CARY, N.C. - The William Peace University men's soccer team closed out non conference play with a 2-0 win over Regent University Saturday afternoon at WakeMed Soccer Park. The Pacers improve to 5-4-1 on the season as they turn their attention to USA South play.
Peace controlled the chances throughout the opening half, out shooting Regent 11-2, but the two sides went into halftime scoreless.
The Pacers broke through in the 58th minute when Kaydan Harriott found the back of the net off an assist from Santiago Escobar to give Peace a 1-0 lead. Less than four minutes later, Topher Johnson doubled the lead off an assist from Chris Rodriguez.
Peace finished with a 20-8 advantage in shots, putting nine attempts on goal, while holding a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Griffin Thomas made his first start of the season in goal and recorded one save to earn the shutout.
The Pacers open USA South play Wednesday, Sept. 30, hosting Pfeiffer University at 7 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park. The conference opener will also serve as William Peace's Hidden Opponent Game.
