FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The William Peace University men's basketball team will make the short trip to Fayetteville on Wednesday night to face Methodist University. The matchup pits the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the USA South against each other.
William Peace (9-4) is coming off a come from behind win over USA South fo, N.C. Wesleyan. The Pacers were bolstered by a big performance from freshman
Jay Hicks who scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to earn USA South Rookie of the Week honors.
The Pacers are being led by seniors
Ryan Emfinger,
Chris Thomas and
Jalen Vince. Together, the three combine for 42.6 points per game and Hicks makes that total 52.5. The Pacers offense has been flowing well this season with the team averaging more than 83 points per game. The Pacers lead the conference in rebounding with 15.6 offensive boards per game and 43 total backboards.
Methodist (9-6) sits right under William Peace in the conference standings. The Monarchs are being led by Davion Ayabarreno who is scoring 18.7 points per game. Three other players average double figures for the Monarchs in Rae Hall (11.9), Jackson Whitley (11.8), and Bryan Rouse (10.8). Methodists' defense has been keeping opponents to a low scoring total. Teams only make 40.5% of their shots against Methodist who leads the USA South in that category.
