BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The William Peace University men's basketball team will compete against Bridgewater College Sunday afternoon. A win over the Eagles on Sunday will give the William Peace its best start of any season in program history with a 4-1 record.
The Pacers are coming off a come from behind win at home against Hampden-Sydney College. The team's only loss of the year came against nationally-ranked Emory at the Guilford College Invitational in the second game of the year. In the only other meeting between these two programs, WPU dropped Bridgewater College, 70-49.
This season the Pacers are being led by seniors
Chris Thomas and
Jalen Vince. Thomas leads the team at 15.8 points per game and Jalen Vince is averaging 14.8. Vince leads the team in steals, assists, rebounds, field-goal percentage, and is tied for the team lead in blocks at two.
Ryan Emfinger is averaging 11.8 points a game and sophomore
Dakota King is just shy of averaging double figures at 9.8 points a game.
Bridgewater College (2-1) lost the first game of the year to Gallaudet, but have won back-to-back games against Methodist and Roanoke.
The Pacers will need to defend Bridewater's Bryce Boggs closely. Boggs leads the Eagles in scoring at 22.7 points per game, but is prone to turning the ball over with 19 through three games. Jesse Case is averaging 12.3 points a game for the Eagles and Kevin Saylor is averaging 10.7.
