RALEIGH, NC – The William Peace University Women's basketball team battled hard but came up short against Meredith College, falling 64-46 in a USA South conference match up at Weatherspoon Gymnasium.
The Pacers (4-15, 3-8 USA South) started slow in the first quarter but found their rhythm in the second, outscoring Meredith 17-13 to head into halftime trailing just 27-25. A strong defensive effort kept them within distance, but the Avenging Angels (6-13, 4-8 USA South) took control in the fourth quarter, pulling away with a 22-point effort to seal the win.
Kaylan Logan Bouknight led the Pacers in scoring with 13 points off the bench, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc. Brene'a Daye and Alayna Randolph added nine points each, with Daye shooting 3-of-6 from deep. Zikira Henderson was active on both ends, contributing seven points, eight rebounds, and a team-high five assists.
William Peace struggled to convert inside, scoring just eight points in the paint compared to Meredith's 38. The Pacers also faced challenges on the boards, getting out-rebounded 46-22, which led to 15 second-chance points for the Avenging Angels.
"It's always tough to play on the road and at Meredith." Head Coach Annalee Bollinger said after the game. "I thought our effort was there but we struggled to score tonight. We plan to bounce back this Saturday."
William Peace will look to bounce back in their next match up as they continue conference play this Saturday, February 8th as they visit Pfeiffer University at 4 PM.
