FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The William Peace University women's basketball team fought hard but ultimately fell to Methodist University 73-55 on Wednesday night at the Riddle Center.
The Pacers (4-17, 3-10 USA South) started strong, keeping up with the Monarchs (14-8, 9-4 USA South) in the opening quarter. Allye Woodruff lead the way with 13 points off the bench, while Alayna Randolph contributed 12 points and seven rebounds. Brene'a Daye added 10 points, knocking down two three-pointers.
"I loved how we competed tonight." WPU Head Coach Annalee Bollinger said after the game. "It obviously didn't go in our favor but I was really proud of how we shared the ball and played together. The energy was great on the floor and from the bench. If we get that all the time I know it can translate into wins for us."
Methodist used their efficiency in the paint to outscore WPU 52-24 inside. Methodist shot 50.8% from the field compared to William Peace's 35.3% and held a 40-27 rebounding advantage.
Despite strong defensive efforts, the Pacers struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 5-of-24 three-point attempts (20.8%). Methodist capitalized on turnovers, scoring 21 points off WPU's 22 giveaways.
