Greensboro, N.C. – The William Peace University men's basketball team secured a thrilling 73-70 victory over Greensboro College in USA South Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Hanes Gymnasium.
A strong first-half performance gave the Pacers (3-15, 1-6 USA South) a 40-34 lead into the second half, powered by hot shooting from Michael Dulin and Elijah Green. Dulin led the way with a game-high 22 points, knocking down six three-pointers, while Green contributed 14 points and a pair of late game free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.
"Proud of our groups for gutting out our first conference win!" Head Coach Claude Shields said after the game. "We've been on the outer end of some one possession games and tonight we made the plays to get it done in Round 10. Excited to build on this starting on Monday!"
William Peace controlled the pace early, shooting 53.7% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc. Elijah Cathcart added 13 points off the bench, and Chuks Ezeonu held it down on the defensive end with 11 rebounds and two blocks.
Greensboro (3-16, 2-6 USA South) kept the game tight throughout, using a dominant 46 points in the paint and strong second-chance opportunities to stay within reach. The Pacers responded with back-to-back three-pointers from Dulin and Cathcart to regain control, and Green's composure at the free throw line with 12 seconds left ensured the victory.
With the win, William Peace snaps a losing streak and picks up its first conference victory of the season. The Pacers will look to build on this momentum when they return to action next week against Methodist at 7 PM in Fayetteville, N.C.
