Pacers Erupt For 19 Hits In 17-7 Home Win Over Mitchell

CARY, N.C. - William Peace regrouped from Saturday's doubleheader losses in a big way, trouncing Mitchell 17-7 on Sunday to conclude the three-game series at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

The Pacers hammered out a season-high 19 hits in victory, which up their record to 2-4 overall. They also handed the Mariners their first loss in three games.

"This was a much needed bounce back win,' WPU Head Coach Charlie Long said. "It was great to see the bats come alive."

Sunday's game contrasted with Saturday's doubleheader, which the Mariners won 8-4 and 17-5. This time, it was the Pacers spraying the ball in the outfield.

Six Pacers produced two or more hits. Aaron Kimbel drove in five runs and scored twice on 3-for-5 hitting including a double and triple. Alex Levesque had four RBIs and scored twice on 4-for-5 hitting including a triple and double.

Cole Thompson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. His two-run homer over the left field wall ended the game in the seventh inning. Both teams agreed to a 10-run mercy rule before the contest.

Jake Dacunto was 4-for-5 with three doubles, one RBI and four runs scored. Andy Duran was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Jacob Case was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Tyler Stockdale scored three runs and collected an RBI.

The Pacers turned the game into a rout early. Kimbel hit a two-run triple to centerfield and Levesque added an RBI single to centerfield in the first inning. Levesque later scored in the inning on a wild pitch for a 4-1 Pacers lead.

William Peace built leads of 9-1 in the fourth inning, 11-3 in the fifth inning and 15-3 in the sixth inning. The Pacers scored two or more runs in every inning but the third.

Benjamin Borte (1-0) took the pitching win, allowing one hit and one run in four innings. Four Pacer pitchers combined to scatter six hits.

After playing four games in three days, the Pacers will take a one-day break before traveling to Roanoke (Va.) on Tuesday, Feb 20. The first pitch is at 4 p.m.
