Men's Basketball Falls To Nationally-Ranked Hampden-Sydney

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Michael Dulin scored 14 points and Ryan Lominack added 13 points off the bench for William Peace in a 97-59 men's basketball loss to nationally-ranked Hampden-Sydney at Fleet Gymnasium on Friday.

Elijah Green added nine points for the Pacers (1-6 overall), facing their second ranked team in three games. Two weeks ago, Guilford, ranked 17th at the time, handed the Pacers a 96-63 defeat in Greensboro, N.C.

Hampden-Sydney beat Guilford in the NCAA DIII semifinals before finishing as national runner-up last season. This season, the Tigers are ranked ninth in the D3hoops.com poll and they showed why on Friday.

The Pacers led 7-4 early on Dulin's jumper but the Tigers quickly pulled away. Leading 18-17, the Tigers used a 19-0 spurt to open a 37-17 advantage. The lead stretched to 28 points before the half ended with Hampden-Sydney ahead 53-27.

The Tigers (7-1 overall) led comfortably in the second half.

"Hampden-Sydney is a really tough team," WPU Head Coach Claude Shields said. "They went to the national title game last year and can get back there again. We held their All-American to six points and they still scored at such a high level. I can't say enough good things about their team and program."

In addition to playing Hampden-Sydney and Guilford, the Pacers visited Division I Davidson in an exhibition game in early November. They have another exhibition game next Tuesday (Dec. 17)  at Division I UNC Greensboro.

First, the Pacers will host Regent on Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Hermann Athletic Center. Tipoff is 2 p.m.

"This will be a quick turnaround for us," Shields said.
