Pacers Fall At Home To Brevard

RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace played Brevard nearly even in the first half but the contest slipped away from the Pacers after halftime in a 96-74 men's basketball loss at the Hermann Athletic Center on Saturday.

The Pacers trailed 49-48 at the break but were outscored 47-26 in the second half. Michael Dulin buried a three-pointer for the Pacers' final lead at 53-51 but the Tornados answered with a 26-4 run for a 77-57 lead midway in the half. The contest stayed in double digits the rest of the way.

Timothy Pettiford led the Pacers (3-3 USA South, 8-9 overall) with 19 points on 8 of 14 shooting. Ryan Lominack came off the bench to score a season-high 15 points on 3 of 5 shooting including 3 of 4 three-pointers. Lominack was 6 of 6 from the free throw line to lead a reserve unit that scored 30 bench points.

Tyler Parton scored 14 points on 5 of 7 shooting. He canned 3 of 4 treys as the Pacers, who shot 38.5 percent behind the arc and 42.6 from the floor overall. Beau Bryant had game-highs of eight rebounds and six assists in addition to four points.

For the second straight weekend, Bryant set a school career record. He became the all-time rebounding leader Saturday after breaking the scoring record a week ago.

Both teams were on fire in the first half. The Pacers made 62.9 percent of their shots and Brevard (4-3 USA South, 9-9 overall) shot 65.5 percent in a high-scoring first half. William Peace cooled off in the second half, shooting 22.2 percent. Meanwhile, the Tornados continued their hot shooting as they made 62.5 percent of their shots.

Quincy Carter scored 25 points on 11 of 13 shooting for the Tornados, who shot 63.9 percent from the floor overall, including 60 percent from the three-point line. Brevard scored 50 points in the paint and 27 points off turnovers.

The Pacers will travel to Rocky Mount, N.C., on Thursday to play N.C. Wesleyan in a USA South Conference contest. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
