RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace gutted out a 64-62 women's basketball win over Pfeiffer at the Hermann Athletic Center on Wednesday.
Tanaesha Ellison and
Nautica Smiley both compiled double-doubles for the Pacers, who improved to 4-6 in the USA South Conference and 6-10 overall. Ellison totaled 21 points and 14 rebounds, and Smiley added 16 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.
The backcourt duo combined to score six points during an 11-2 run which turned a 52-52 tie into a 63-54 lead with under two minutes left. The Pacers then survived a late rally to outlast Pfeiffer.
Pfeiffer pulled within two points and had a chance to win or tie in the final seconds. But the Falcons missed the mark on a jumper in the paint as time expired.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak to Pfeiffer, which dropped to 2-7 in the USA South and 3-11 overall. The Pacers have captured wins in two of their last three games.
Allye Woodruff added 10 points and three steals and
Hannah Lewis contributed nine points and seven rebounds for the Pacers. Hannah Isley led Pfeiffer with 17 points.
The Pacers won the game at the free throw line. They made 22 of 31 free throws compared to 7 of 9 for Pfeiffer.
William Peace will hit the road on Saturday, Jan. 20, to take on Brevard in a USA South Conference tilt. Tipoff is 2 p.m.
