RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University baseball was picked 4th in the USA South Baseball Coaches Preseason Poll East Division. The Pacers finished 20-18 in the 2021 season, going 11-7 in the conference and advancing to the USA South Conference Tournament.
The Pacers return 32 to the 2022 roster, including
Hunter Ward and
Logan Barbour, who sat near the top of the Pacer leaderboard. Ward tallied 2 home runs, 35 RBIs, and a .449 slugging percentage in 118 at-bats. Barbour notched 18 RBIs, 1 home run, and a .429 on-base percentage.
Philip Berger will look lead the Pacers on the mound, returning from a successful 2021 season where he recorded 5 wins and 42 strikeouts in 15 appearances.
The Pacers added new leadership over the summer with the hiring of Head Coach
Charlie Long. Coach Long previously served as the Head Baseball Coach at NC Wesleyan College from 1998-2018, leading the Battling Bishops to a NCAA DIII National Title and a combined 17 USA South Championships, as well as 4 USA South Coach of the Year awards. Coach Long will be assisted by
Ed Porcelli,
Rick Jones,
Stephen Zimora, and
Vincent Redmond.
