Pacers Sweep Series Against Mary Washington

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The William Peace University baseball team concluded their 3-game series against the University of Mary Washington with two more wins on Sunday, February 23rd. The Pacers took game one by a score of (7-0) before closing out the series with a (9-6) win in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
Phillip Berger would start the game off strong for the Pacers on the mound as he struck out his first batter at the top of the first. Second baseman Kyle Lowke would make two quick outs to send the Pacers into the bottom of the first. Gavin Taylor's triple would put him in scoring position to get home after a fielding error by the Eagles to give WPU a (1-0) advantage. Nathan Holt would snag all three outs at the top of the second to keep the Pacers in the lead. In the bottom of the second, the Pacers would get two runners in scoring position before Tyshawn Barret would drive one down the third baseline for a (3-0) Pacer lead. In the bottom of the 3rd, WPU would get the bases loaded before a walk and an error would increase the Pacer lead to (5-0). In the bottom of the 6th, Tyshawn Barrett's double would put him in scoring position before Hunter Ward's triple to left center brought the score to (6-0). Logan Barbour's sacrifice fly would bring home Parker Fernstrum (7-0), while Phillip Berger would close down the game for the Pacers on the mound, pitching all 7 innings and allowing no runs to secure the (7-0) win.
 
GAME TWO
Brendan Shea would start strong on the mound for the Pacers in game two, sending the Pacers into the bottom of the first where they were unable to gain any traction. Logan Barbour would score in the bottom of the 2nd after Alec Seaton was caught stealing second (1-0). Garrett Pannell's single would put Jake Norris in scoring position, while Gavin Taylor's hit would give WPU a (2-0) lead. Nathan Holt's single would score Tyshawn Barrett in the bottom of the third (3-0). Jake Norris would score to give the Pacers a (4-0) lead in the bottom of the fourth. The Eagles would have a big sixth inning, starting with Christian Hague's homerun to get the Eagles on the board (4-1). The Eagles would get the bases loaded, and a few big hits from the team would put them ahead of the Pacers (6-4) heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Pacers would respond with 5 runs of their own; Logan Barbour's double would tie the game (6-6), while a double from Jake Norris and a single by Alec Seaton would put the Pacers ahead (9-6).
 
PACER TOP PERFORMERS
  • Tyshawn Barrett was 2 for 4 at bat in game one while also adding 2 RBIs
  • Phillip Berger pitched a shutout in game one as he was on the mound for all 7 innings, allowing just 3 hits and tallied 5 strikeouts.

NEXT GAME
The Pacers will travel to Greensboro, NC to face the Pride in another 3-game series beginning on February 28th. First pitch is scheduled for 3PM.
