CARY, N.C. - The William Peace University men's soccer team fell 5-0 to Roanoke College Tuesday night in its home opener at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The two sides remained scoreless through the opening 36 minutes before Roanoke broke through with four goals over the final nine minutes of the first half. Will Demus opened the scoring in the 37th minute before Carlos Lomena scored twice and Slate Danforth added another to give the Maroons a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Peace generated more opportunities after the break, recording 10 of its 15 shots in the second half. Gabriel Faria Jr. put an attempt on goal in the 65th minute, while Tambe Mboumein added another in the 85th, but Roanoke kept the Pacers off the board.
Lomena completed his hat trick in the 65th minute for the final goal of the night.
Despite the result, Peace finished with a 15-10 advantage in shots, while both teams recorded three corner kicks. Dallas Story played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save.
The Pacers move to 2-3-1 on the season and return to the road Friday, Sept. 18, traveling to Charlotte to face Johnson & Wales (N.C.) at 4 p.m.
