Johnson Finds the Net in 1-1 Tie at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. - The William Peace University men's soccer team battled Piedmont to a 1-1 draw Friday afternoon at Walker Athletic Complex.

The two sides played a scoreless opening half, with Peace putting four of its seven shots on goal. The Pacers continued to create chances after the break before Piedmont broke through in the 61st minute on a goal from Daris Mustic, assisted by Edwin Sosa-Reyes.

Peace answered just over five minutes later. Gavin Beaupre sent a free kick on goal that was saved by the Piedmont keeper before Topher Johnson found the back of the net on the rebound in the 66th minute to even the match at 1-1. The equalizer marked Johnson's third goal of the season.

The Pacers continued to push for the go-ahead goal, recording 14 shots in the second half. Jackson Campbell put Peace's final chance on goal in the 88th minute, but Piedmont goalkeeper Jean Franco Loria made the save to keep the match even.

Peace finished with a 21-13 advantage in shots, including a 10-5 edge in shots on goal. Dallas Story played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves.

William Peace moves to 1-2-1 on the season and continues its road stretch tomorrow, Sept. 12, with a noon match at LaGrange.
