CARY, N.C. — In a must-win game with a playoff spot on the line, William Peace men's lacrosse delivered when it mattered most, securing a thrilling 15-12 victory over LaGrange on Friday afternoon at WakeMed Park to punch their ticket to the USA South postseason.
Brandon Goad and Jamar Bell led the Pacers with five goals apiece, combining for 10 of WPU's 15. Caleb Trahan and William English recorded five points—as the Pacers broke a 6-6 halftime tie with a six-goal third quarter rally to take control.
The Pacers held it down defensively in the fourth quarter, even though LaGrange managed to find the back of the net five times. A man-up goal from Bell with just over two minutes remaining gave the Pacers breathing room, and Goad sealed the win with his final goal at the 1:30 mark.
"The boys took offense to the number eight preseason ranking, and they went to work. They earned a playoff appearance, and are bought in to what William Peace Lacrosse is becoming!"
Tom Newhall made nine saves in the win, while the Pacer defense forced 22 turnovers and went a perfect 15-for-15 on clears.
With the win, William Peace improves to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play—earning a guaranteed spot in the USA South tournament.
The Pacers return on Wednesday, April 23rd to host Warren Wilson College in their final regular season home match, to honor the graduating class of 2025 on Senior Night.
