CARY, N.C. - William Peace women's lacrosse put together a strong effort but came up just short in a hard-fought 13–10 loss to Greensboro College on Saturday at WakeMed Park. Senior midfielder Mary Langer powered the Pacers with six goals and an assist.
M. Langer sparked the Pacer offense all game long, scoring in every quarter and keeping WPU in the mix as momentum swung back and forth. She was supported by sister Elise Langer, who contributed two goals and two assists, including a late-game feed to Mary for a man-up goal that cut the deficit to three. Egypt Carroll and Sam Huff each added one goal apiece, with Huff's coming just seconds after Greensboro extended its lead to five in the fourth.
"The girls worked really well together today." Head Coach Rebecca Fraser said after the game. "Ran out of steam in the end, but overall great team game and lots of improvement since the beginning of the year. Very proud of their effort and commitment so far this season."
WPU kept pace early, matching Greensboro 4–4 after the first quarter. But a three-goal rally from the visitors in the second quarter gave the Pride a 7–6 halftime lead, and from there, the Pacers were forced to play catch-up. Despite strong defensive stretches and a 15-save performance by goalkeeper Aryal Brandon, Greensboro capitalized on nine free-position attempts and controlled the draw, finishing with a 17–10 advantage in draw controls.
Turnovers and limited offensive opportunities proved costly for the Pacers, who managed just 19 total shots to Greensboro's 37. Still, WPU stayed aggressive throughout, scoring two man-up goals and going 10-for-12 on clear attempts.
The Pacers will look to bounce back in their next match up when they face Brevard College on Saturday April 5th.
