GREENSBORO, NC. - Game one: The Pacers and Pride took the field on a picture perfect afternoon to play two games of baseball. The first game of Saturday's double header followed the theme of Friday night's offensive fireworks.
Greensboro scratched a run in the first off a couple of early base hits. The Pacers quickly answered in the top of the second when Adam Joseph singled in two runners, giving Peace a slim 2-1 lead.
The next half inning felt like an entire game for Pacer fans as Greensboro almost pushed double digit runs across the plate. The Pride amassed 9 runs on 6 hits in the second. This explosion of offense included 2 hit batters, 2 walks, 2 homeruns, a triple and 3 singles.
The Pacers tried to respond by generating some base traffic for Gavin Turner, who delivered a 2 RBI single. Turner continued an impressive last month, making a case to win his fourth USA South freshman of the week.
The Pacers scratched another in the 4th on an RBI single by Connor McCluney, and the comeback seemed to be on when the Pride threw a ball away in the 5th, cutting the Pride lead to 10-6.
However, the Pride would pull away in the second half of the ball game, stretching the lead out to 13-6 after 6 innings of play. Peace would make their last push in the 8th, adding 3 runs to their final tally. Greensboro added one more insurance run in the bottom of the 8th, setting the scoreboard at 14-9 permanently.
The Pacers dropped game one of the double header, now needing to recover and avoid a sweep in game 2.
Game Two: Senior Jarret Hall took the mound for the Pacers in game three of the series, looking to get the Pacers into the win column for the first time this weekend.
Unfortunately for Pacer fans, Greensboro quickly got to Hall, putting up 5 runs in the bottom of the first. Any remaining momentum left in the Pacer sails was sucked out by the early crooked number from the Pride.
The Pacers would get one back in the second when Adam Joseph struck a sacrifice fly, scoring Nevin Norville. The chaos was only calmed temporarily as the Pride got right back to work in the third. Greensboro scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd, establishing an 8 run margin that would only grow from there.
Greensboro added two in the 4th and two in the 5th, and the decision was made clear halfway through the contest. Peace fought back in the 6th and 7th, adding 3 runs to their total. However, it wasn't enough as the deficit still remained in double digits.
The Pacers would drop game three of the series by a final score of 15-5. The Pacers must reset as the calendar turns to April, Peace takes on rival NC Wesleyan starting Friday, 4/4.
