BUENA VISTA, V.A. - The William Peace University's women's basketball team faced a tough challenge on the road against Southern Virginia University, falling 101-47 in a USA South Conference match up on Saturday afternoon at Knight Arena in Buena Vista, Virginia.
Southern Virginia's offense got off to a fast start, outscoring William Peace 25-7 in the opening quarter and never looked back. The Knights shot a respectable 53.3% from the field and knocked down 15 three-pointers, maintaining control throughout the game.
"Today was a tough one on the road for us. It's never fun to lose but it was a good growing moment for our group." WPU Head Coach Annalee Bollinger said. "That's a good Southern Virginia team and we will be better for the next go around. Now we get to shift our focus onto Meredith. We are excited to get back at home and get a win."
Zikira Henderson was the standout for the Pacers, finishing with a team-high 13 points and adding three rebounds. Brene'a Daye chipped in with 11 points, knocking down all six of her free-throw attempts.
Despite the effort, the Pacers struggled offensively, shooting 21.6% from the floor and facing pressure from Southern Virginia's defense, which forced 23 turnovers.
The loss moves William Peace to 2-10 overall and 1-4 in the USA South Conference. The Pacers will look to regroup as they prepare for their next contest back at home on January 15th against Meredith College for a 6:00 PM match up.
