Volleyball Goes 2-0 On First Day of Hill City Classic

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Everything clicked for William Peace in women's volleyball Friday.

The Pacers defeated Lynchburg (25-21, 25-19, 17-25, 25-23) and LaGrange (17-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-17) in four sets each on the first day of the Hill City Classic at Turner Gym. William Peace (6-4 overall) has won four of its last five matches, including its third two-match win streak this season.

"Today, we were able to flip a switch a bit faster which is exactly what we have been looking for and working on!," Head Coach Hannah Marshall said. "It was an all-out team effort today, and we are looking forward to competing Saturday."

Jordan Juanes and Chassie Jacops finished with 14 kills and 10 kills, respectively, against Lynchburg. Georgia Grace Anderson added eight kills and Maegan Brylski accumulated 41 assists, nine digs, three service aces and three blocks. Sarah Yates and Jordyn Chinigo also contributed eight kills each for the Pacers, who posted a .278 attack percentage compared to .261 for the Hornets.

Vivian Camplin tallied 15 digs and had four of the Pacers' 10 aces. Savannah Hairr totaled 10 digs and Katie Arens added 7 digs.

The Pacers outscored the Hornets 9-2 to turn an 11-10 deficit into a 19-13 lead which keyed their 25-21 first-set win. William Peace opened an 18-11 lead in the second set, but a Lynchburg rally cut the margin to 18-17. A 7-2 run propelled the Pacers to their second straight set victory.

William Peace dropped the third set 17-25 and were behind 16-13 in the fourth set before rallying. The Pacers finished with a 12-7 run for match victory.

After beating Lynchburg, the Pacers played LaGrange with little rest in the next match. They started slowly, losing the first set 17-25, but gained their second wind to take the next three for match victory. William Peace dominated each set, winning 25-16, 25-14 and 25-17.

Jacops paced William Peace with 16 kills and three blocks followed by Yates with 14 kills and Juanes with 12 and 11 digs. Brylski amassed 44 saves, four aces, five kills and nine digs for the Pacers, who recorded a .324 attack percentage while holding LaGrange to .107 percent.

Camplin recorded a team-high 24 digs and three aces while Arens finished with nine digs. Tameka Adams tied Jacops with three blocks.

William Peace will look to increase its winning streak on Saturday against Randolph at 1 p.m. in the Hill City Classic.
