Volleyball Rallies For Five-Set Win Over Marymount

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – After falling behind 2-1, William Peace took the last two sets to rally past Marymount 3-2 (25-18, 22-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-13) in the Pacers' second match at the Marlin Volleyball Invitational on Friday.

The win was the first of the season for the Pacers, who evened their record at 1-1. And it was a memorable triumph, too.

Momentum swung back-and-forth throughout the match but the Pacers made the plays when it counted. Jordyn Chinigo broke a 13-13 tie in the fifth set with a kill off Maegan Brylski's assist. Jordan Juanes sealed the victory with a service ace.

"I am super proud of the way the entire team rebounded to pull out the win!," Pacers' Head Coach Hannah Marshall said. "It was back and forth, and every single person found a new gear to push through the fifth set."

Juanes sparked the Pacers with 19 kills while Georgia Grace Anderson and Chassie Jacops added eight and seven kills, respectively. Brylski totaled 40 assists after surpassing 1,000 career assists earlier in the day. She added nine aces while Juanes finished with two aces and two blocks.

Chinigo finished with five blocks and Jacops added three blocks. Vivian Camplin collected 26 digs and Katie Arens added 12 digs.

The Pacers controlled the first set, leading 19-13 at one point, before finishing off Marymount 25-18. It appeared they would take the second set with a 20-16 lead but Marymount came back to eke out a 25-22 win to tie the match.

William Peace started fast in the third set as it built a 9-3 lead. The margin was 19-15 before Marymount went on another late run to pull out a 25-22 victory.

The Pacers opened an 18-10 lead in the fourth set but Marymount (1-1 overall) rallied once again. Marymount closed within 20-18 but the Pacers scored five of the last six points for a 25-19 victory.

The fifth set was similar to the previous four sets as William Peace raced out to an 8-5 lead. After both teams switched sides, the Pacers found themselves down 12-10. This time, it was the Pacers who rallied. They outscored Marymount 5-1 for the thrilling five-set win.

Action continues for the Pacers on Saturday in the Marlin Invitational. They face Geneva (Pa.) at 10 a.m. and nationally-ranked Mary Washington at 2 pm.
