Pacers Collect 23 Hits In Baseball Doubleheader Losses

CARY, N.C. – William Peace tallied 23 hits in two games but fell to Pfeiffer by identical 6-5 scores in a USA South doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Saturday.

The Pacers are still in contention for the final spot in the conference tournament, which begins May 2. They will host Southern Virginia in a make-up game with the eighth seed on the line Monday, April 29.

First, the Pacers will look to beat Pfeiffer at home on Sunday after two close losses on Saturday. They nearly rallied to victory in both games, including the nightcap after trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the ninth.

William Peace scored three runs to pull within 6-5 and had the bases loaded with two outs but Pfeiffer got the strikeout for the win.

Jacob Case went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Dalton Frasier went 2-for-3 with one run scored for the Pacers, who had 12 hits. Nick Tubolino and Alex Levesque each added an RBI and Cole Thompson doubled and scored two runs.

In the first game, Griffin Sandstrum connected on a two-run single to put the Pacers ahead 5-4 in the seventh inning. The Falcons regained the lead at 6-5 in the eighth inning but the Pacers threatened in the bottom eighth with a runner on third and two outs. A strikeout prevented the Pacers from tying the score.

Frasier batted 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Pacers, who finished with 11 hits. Thompson produced one RBI and one run and Tyler Stocksdale drove in a run.

The third and final game of the series will start on Sunday at 1 p.m.
