Pacers Top Pfeiffer On Senior Day, Hosts Southern Virginia In Must-Win Game Monday

CARY, N.C. – Senior Day was a good day for William Peace as the Pacers topped Pfeiffer 4-3 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Sunday.

The Pacers were coming off two 6-5 losses in Saturday's doubleheader. The outcome on Sunday was again decided by one run but the Pacers were winners this time.

The victory was much needed as the Pacers prepare for Monday's must-win showdown against Southern Virginia in the 6 p.m. regular-season finale at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The winner advances to the USA South Baseball Tournament, which begins Thursday, May 2.

Twelve Pacers were honored during the Senior Day ceremony in front of family, friends, fans, coaches and teammates before Sunday's game. They were Roldanny Alvarez, Will Thistle, Cole Thompson, Dylan Hill, Jake Dacunto, Hernan Ruedas, Dalton Meredith, Andy Duran, Kameron Ballance, Justin Hamilton, Nick Tyler and Cameron Barefoot.

The energy from the ceremony carried over into the matchup against Pfeiffer, which led 2-0 in the fourth inning. A three-run fifth inning rally put the Pacers in front 4-2 and they led the rest of the game.

Each senior saw action including Hamilton, who struck out the only batter he faced in the ninth inning for his third save this season. Hamilton replaced Hill, who also fanned the only batter he pitched against in the ninth.

Freshman pitcher Benjamin Borte was the winner after scattering six hits in 6.2 innings and recording three strikeouts, zero walks and two earned runs.

Thompson drove in two runs on a single in the fifth inning to spark the Pacers' rally. The Pacers scored the other run in the fifth on Aaron Kimbel's RBI groundout.

After winning on Senior Day, the Pacers will turn their focus to Southern Virginia. Both teams split in a doubleheader two weekends ago and the rubber match was re-scheduled for Monday.

It all comes down to one game for the Pacers.
