Pacers Fall To Brevard, Remain in Hunt For League Tourney Berth

BREVARD, N.C. – William Peace fell 9-7 to Brevard on Monday but won two out of three games in the USA South weekend series to remain in the hunt for a conference baseball tournament berth.

The Pacers (8-9 USA South) are currently sixth in the standings with a big three-game series coming up against seventh-place Pfeiffer (8-10) at home this weekend. The top six teams in the eight-team conference advance to the USA South Tournament, set to begin May 2.

N.C. Wesleyan (15-3) is the conference leader but six teams, including William Peace, are bunched up in the middle of the standings with conference play ending this weekend. The Pacers swept Brevard on Saturday to put themselves in position for a postseason berth.

William Peace continued its torrid hitting Monday, collecting 13 hits for a total of 44 in three games against Brevard. The Pacers nearly swept the Tornados despite leaving 13 men on base in the loss.

The Pacers trailed 5-1 but scored three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to erase the deficit. Adam Joseph hit an RBI single and Tyler Stockdale added a two-run double to get within 5-4 in the fifth inning. Jacob Case hit a two-run single and Cameron Barefoot belted an RBI single to give the Pacers a 7-5 lead.

The Pacers scored six unanswered runs after trailing 4-1 in the first inning, but the Tornados responded with four runs in the seventh for a 9-7 lead that held up the rest of the game.

Alex Levesque, named USA South Player of the Week, continued his hot hitting as he finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Stocksdale went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Barefoot batted 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.

Justin Hamilton pitched well in a relief role. He allowed one hit and one run with five strikeouts and one walk in four innings.

Before the Pacers prepare for Pfeiffer, they have a single non-conference game at Hampden-Sydney on Thursday, April 25, at 3:30 p.m.
