Pacers Amass 31 Hits in Doubleheader Sweep Over Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. – William Peace picked up two important wins against Brevard in a USA South baseball doubleheader sweep on Saturday.

The Pacers, fighting for a league tournament berth, beat the Tornados 9-6 in Game 1 and 10-4 in Game 2. If the season ended today, the Pacers would be one of six teams in the USA South Tournament, which starts May 2.

Four conference games remain for the Pacers, who are currently sixth in the conference at 8-8. Both WPU and Brevard will play again Sunday at 4 p.m. and the Pacers will host a three-game series against Pfeiffer, which is currently seventh at 8-10., the following weekend.

The Pacers slugged their way to victories over Brevard, amassing a whopping 31 hits in two games combined. They tallied 16 hits in the first game and 15 in the second.

Griffin Sandstrum went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored for the Pacers. Adam Joseph went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored and Nick Tubolino batted 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI and one run scored.

Nick Tyler had two hits, including a triple, with two runs scored and Dalton Frasier scored two runs and had an RBI. Alex Levesque tallied two hits, including a double, one RBI and one run scored.

The Pacers fell behind 3-1 in the second inning, but their bats came alive as the game progressed. They scored seven unanswered runs, capped by Levesque's RBI single in the sixth inning for an 8-3 lead. The Tornados tried to rally late but the comeback fell short.

Jack McIntosh scattered seven hits in 6.1 innings for the pitching win. Ethan Hummel allowed no runs in 1.2 innings for the save.

The second game was similar to the first. The Pacers fell behind but quickly recovered, taking a 4-1 lead in the sixth inning on Cameron Barefoot's RBI single and Joseph's RBI groundout. RBI doubles by Levesque and Tubolino stretched the lead to 6-1 and Tubolino scored on infield error for a six-run lead.

Frasier hit an RBI single in the ninth for a 10-2 Pacers' lead. He drove in three runs on two hits and scored once for the Pacers.

Joseph batted 3-for-5 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored. Tubolino went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored and Levesque went 3-for-3 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored.

Ryan Manning was the winning pitcher after allowing eight hits in 6.2 innings. He finished with four strikeouts, one walk and two earned runs.
