Pacers Rally Past St. Andrews On Levesque's Walk-Off Hit, Split Doubleheader

CARY, N.C. – Alex Levesque delivered in a big way for William Peace on Tuesday.

The WPU sophomore, inserted as a pinch hitter, crushed a two-run walk-off single in the right center field gap to give the Pacers a thrilling 7-6 win over St. Andrews in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.

The ending was the direct opposite of the first contest, a 5-3 loss, when a potential game-winning at-bat resulted in a game-ending double play. Both contests were played at the USA Baseball National Training Center.

In the second game, the Pacers rallied after giving up a 4-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning. St. Andrews scored four runs to go ahead 6-4.

The Pacers had one last rally in them, however. Aaron Kimbel was hit by a pitch to start the inning and, after a strikeout, Nick Tyler reached base on a walk.

Pinch hitter Andy Duran advanced both runners with a single and Griffin Sandstrum drove in Roldanny Alvarez, who pinch ran for Kimbel, on a groundout to cut the score to 6-5. It set the stage for Levesque's at-bat and he wasted no time, hitting the first pitch for a single to bring home Tyler and Jacob Cace, who pinch ran for Duran.

Levesque and Dalton Frasier both recorded two RBIs and Kyle Peters and Tyler both scored two runs for the Pacers. Jarrett Hall was the winning pitcher after hurling the seventh inning.

In the first game, the Pacers nearly came back after trailing 5-1 entering the bottom of the seventh inning. Tyler hit an RBI single and Kimbel had an RBI walk to get the Pacers within two runs. The Pacers had the bases loaded with one out before hitting into a double play to end the game.

Will Thistle went 2-for-3 with one run scored and Sandstrum doubled for the Pacers in the first game.

The Pacers will travel to face Brevard in a three-game USA South Conference series this weekend in Brevard, N.C. The first game is set for Saturday at 3 p.m. followed by a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
