Men's Lacrosse Program Suspends Remainder of the Season

RALEIGH, N.C. – The William Peace University Department of Athletics announced Thursday that the men's lacrosse team will suspend the remainder of the 2024 season due to significant injuries within the program.

"This was a very difficult decision but was made in the best interest of our student-athletes as our first priority is to protect their health and safety," WPU Athletic Director Claude Shields said. "We are extremely proud of how they represented our institution, athletic department and program this spring. We are looking forward to a strong recruiting class in the fall and a bounce back year next spring."

The Pacers were 3-7 overall prior to the announcement. They were coming off back-to-back victories over Brevard and Warren Wilson this past weekend with four games left in the regular season. In three losses, the Pacers held the lead or were tied in the fourth quarter.

"Our program showed great promise during the year," WPU Head Coach Mark Crisco said. "We did not want it to end this way but, unfortunately, injuries took its toll and had a severe impact on the program. I feel bad for the student-athletes who gave their all. They competed from start to finish in every game. This decision was not made lightly but I am already looking forward to next season."
