RALEIGH, N.C. - Matthew Boteler returns to William Peace after competing for the Pacers during the 2020 and 2021 seasons. A faceoff specialist, he appeared in 15 games with 12 starts over his two seasons, collecting 79 ground balls and winning 140 faceoffs. As a senior in 2021, Boteler won 109 faceoffs at a .551 percentage while recording 65 ground balls.
"As a Peace alumnus, Matthew understands firsthand what makes Peace special," Head Coach Troy Humphrey said. "His experiences across the country and around the world, along with his passion for lacrosse and genuine care for others, embody the culture we are building within our program. He is a great example of what it means to be a Pacer."
Following his graduation from Peace, Boteler returned home to coach U14 players with the youth club he played for himself. He later moved to North Dakota, where he helped co-found the Williston Lacrosse Club and organized clinics for players of all ages focused on skill development and fundamentals while helping grow the sport in the area.
Boteler also gained international coaching experience through the Zimbabwe Lacrosse Federation, traveling to Zimbabwe to introduce and teach lacrosse in communities and villages while helping expand access to the sport.
Upon returning to the United States, Boteler joined the coaching staff at Swansboro High School as a face off and wing coach. In the role, he continued his focus on developing players through fundamentals, position-specific instruction and creating opportunities for athletes to grow through the game.
"I'm honored to be back at Peace." Boteler said. "I'm looking forward to working with the student-athletes and continuing to grow the men's lacrosse program at Peace."
