Pacers Win First Game, Split Doubleheader vs. Rochester

CARY, N.C. – William Peace recovered from a first-inning deficit to top Rochester 8-6 in the first game of a baseball doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Wednesday, March 12.

Tyler Stocksdale was 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, an RBI and two runs scored for the Pacers, who had 10 hits. His RBI bunt single was part of a five-run second-inning rally that erased a 4-0 first-inning deficit. Adam Joseph and Nick Tyler added an RBI double and RBI single, respectively, in the inning.

The trio was among six Pacers who drove in runs. Aaron Kimbel collected an RBI single and Adam Levesque had a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Cole Thompson produced a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Thompson's RBI was timely. The Pacers led 7-4 after the fourth inning but Rochester crawled back within 7-6 in the fifth inning. Neither team scored again until the eighth when Thompson's sacrifice fly scored Cameron Barefoot, who opened the inning with a double.

Relief pitcher Justin Hamilton finished off Rochester in the ninth, facing only three batters. He put in two innings of work to get the save. Maxwell Kasprowicz scattered five hits and recorded two strikeouts in 3.1 innings for the win after entering the game in the second inning.

In the second game, the Pacers fell behind 6-0 in the first inning and never led in a 12-4 seven-inning loss.

The Pacers scored three runs in the third and one in the fourth to pull within 6-4. Kyle Peters and Kimbel each hit an RBI single and Barefoot recorded an RBI bases-loaded walk in the third inning. Nick Tyler smacked an RBI single in the fourth.

Rochester responded with six runs in the fifth for the win.

Both teams play again Wednesday, March 13, in a doubleheader at the USA Baseball NTC. The first game starts at 11 a.m. followed by the second game at approximately 2 p.m.
