Women's Basketball Falls To Ferrum On The Road

FERRUM, Va. – William Peace showed positive signs in a 71-45 women's basketball loss to Ferrum at Swartz Gymnasium on Wednesday.

The Pacers limited the hosts to 18.7 percent shooting on 3 of 16 attempts in the third period. Ferrum committed 21 turnovers against the Pacers' defense.

But a slow start doomed the visitors in the non-conference loss. The Pacers (0-2 overall) were outscored 17-5 in the first period.

New Head Coach Annalee Bollinger remained upbeat despite the defeat. The youthful Pacers are learning to play together each game.

"We got into a hole early in the first quarter and struggled to climb our way out of it tonight," Bollinger said. "We saw some good things from the group and some things that need some attention."

Alayna Randolph was a bright spot for the Pacers. The sophomore guard scored 12 points and added four steals. Jessica Worthey tallied nine points and Brittany Blackburn and Zikira Henderson each scored six points.

Ferrum (1-0 overall) outscored the Pacers 24-17 in the second period for a 19-point halftime lead. The Pacers played their best in the third period. They tied the Panthers 13-13.

The Pacers can use the third period as motivation for their next game. Lynchburg comes to the Hermann Athletic Center this weekend for a non-conference tilt.

"We are young and still learning but we will use this as a lesson and be better for it Saturday," Bollinger said.
