Ellison Posts Double-Double In Loss To Brevard

RALEIGH, N.C. – Tanaesha Ellison posted a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds, but William Peace came up short in a 92-66 USA South women's basketball loss to Brevard at the Hermann Athletic Center on Saturday.

Ellison, the leading scorer and rebounder in the USA South Conference, led the Pacers in both categories. The double-double was her fourth in eight games.

Nautica Smiley added 21 points, five rebounds and six steals and Ally Woodruff chipped in 12 points for the Pacers, who are 1-3 in the USA South Conference and 3-5 overall.

The Pacers, led by Ellison and Smiley, took charge early in the contest. Smiley scored six of the Pacers' 16 points to tie the Tornados, picked second in the conference preseason poll, heading into the second period. Ellison scored 11 second-period points as the Pacers trailed 46-38 at halftime.

William Peace was in striking distance midway in the third period. The Pacers were within seven at 53-46 on Smiley's three-pointer, but the Tornados (3-1 USA South, 7-2 overall) caught fire, outscoring the hosts 31-11 between the third and fourth periods for an 84-57 lead with four minutes left in the game.

The Tornados, led by 27 points and 10 rebounds from Makenna Parkins, shot 44 percent while the Pacers made 37 percent of their shots. The Pacers committed 21 turnovers which Brevard converted into 24 points and were outscored 18-7 on second chance points against the taller Tornados.

Nora Williams added seven rebounds and Ja'Naisja Baker collected two steals for the Pacers, who will host Johnson & Wales in a non-conference tilt on Friday, Dec. 15, at home beginning at 3 p.m.
