Baseball Set To Open Season On The Road Against Monarchs

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University's baseball program will begin their regular season on the road with a non-conference contest this Saturday at Methodist University. The Pacers are coming off of a shortened 2020 season, where they finished with a 12-6 overall record and a 2-4 conference record.

The Monarchs were also 12-6 overall in 2020, with a 3-0 conference record. In 2019, they finished with a 32-9 overall record and a 20-4 conference record, eventually falling in extra innings in the USA South Conference Tournament to Huntingdon College. The Monarchs are currently 0-1 in 2021, with their one loss coming from NC Wesleyan. Jordan Cassell and Wesley Hall led the team in that loss with 1 RBI each.

The Pacers return an experienced lineup, with their starting nine from the 2020 season all returning. Besides their returning lineup, the Pacers will welcome back an experienced starting rotation and bullpen which includes Sam Peddycord, Philip Berger, Austin Skipper, Mitchell Baddour, and Peyton Howard.

Logan Barbour, Tyshawn Barrett, and Hunter Ward led the team at the plate in 2020, with Barrett leading all NCAA players in triples. Barbour posted a .433 batting average, with Ward finishing at .379. Barbour also recorded a 0.64 ERA in 14 innings with 20 strikeouts, allowing just 8 hits and 1 run.
