Pacers Conclude Conference Tournament Play With Loss In Semifinals

Box Score The William Peace University women's basketball team concluded an impressive tournament run as they fell to Piedmont College (59-49).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pacers got off to a slow start in the first quarter as Piedmont would take a (8-0) lead before Cierra Baker's drive under the net got the Pacers on the board (8-2). Baker would cut the lead in down to just (9-7) with another layup before Lauryn Cross would tie it up (9-9). A couple of made free throws by Mikayla Ray would put WPU in the lead (11-9), but Piedmont would quickly storm back and would take a (15-14) lead heading into the second quarter.
  • Jaymesha Sander would give the Pacers a (16-15) lead early in the second quarter. The quarter would prove to be a back-and-forth battle as neither team could gain an advantage. Kiera Williams would give WPU a (21-19) lead, but the Lions would quickly tie it back up. The Lions would take a (27-23) lead late in the second quarter before Kiera Williams and Lauryn Cross would combine to tie it (27-27) heading into halftime.
  • The Pacers would start rolling in the third quarter as a few layups by Mikayla Ray would give them a (31-27) advantage. A layup by Lauryn Cross would bring the score to (36-31), but Piedmont would push back near the end of the quarter to trail by just one (39-38).
  • The fourth quarter was a defensive battle as neither team found much traction. Jaymesha Sanders would tie the game at (43-43) with a drive under the net, but Piedmont would grab several consecutive points to lead (50-45). Sanders added another layup as the Pacers trailed (52-49), but the Lions continued to have the hot hand and would defeat WPU (59-49).

  • Nakiyah Washington led the Lions with 25 points.
  • Amari Price notched 14 rebounds and 7 points.
