Baseball Prepares for Piedmont Lions Weekend Series

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The William Peace University baseball team takes on Piedmont College for a weekend conference series. The Pacers (5-6) are back on their home field after spending the previous weekend on the road in Fayetteville, NC.

The Lions (6-5) enter the weekend on a three-game winning streak having recently defeated conference opponent Berea College. Piedmont recorded two big wins against Birmingham Southern this season, who is ranked #7 in the nation. The Lions have scored an impressive 104 runs in 11 games played.

The last time the Pacers faced the Lions was in 2015 where the Pacers won the three-day series 2-1. The Pacer offense is being led by freshman, Gavin Wheeler who is posting a .389 batting average through seven games played. Over the weekend, Wheeler went 2-4 and 3-5 in the first two games of the Methodist series. Alec Allred has shown strength at the plate as well with a .385 batting average and a .487 slugging percentage through 11 games played.

The series schedule begins with a single game on Friday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. followed by a 3:00 p.m. start on Saturday afternoon, and concluding with a game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
