Baseball Opens Up Spring Season Against Southern Virginia

Raleigh, NC - - The William Peace University baseball team will open up their season on Friday, February 2, against Southern Virginia University. The 3:00 p.m. game will be the first of two in the series, with the second game occurring the following day. In the 2017 season, the Pacers won a three game series (2-1) over the Knights, with a (3-2) win, a (5-2) win, and a (5-1) loss.

The Pacers welcome fourteen new freshman to the team, and will look for leadership in fourteen returning seniors: Kyle Cramer, Trey Hogan, Braxton Lamm, Travis Arthur, Jayce Stephenson, Christian Dix, Cullen Cicotte, Coleman Greene, Sean Finneran, Cameron High, Ben Brann, Luke Westmoreland, and Luke Drancsak.

Finneran helped lead the team last year, finishing out the season with a batting average of .313 and an on base percentage of .444, while junior Alec Allred led the team in the field with 298 put-outs. Coleman Greene and DC Russ return to the mound for WPU, having earned ERAs last year of 2.70 and 3.72, respectively.

In 2017, WPU finished with an (8-10) conference record, earning the team their first postseason appearance in the USA South Conference tournament. They were ultimately eliminated by Greensboro College in a (7-2) loss in the first-round.
