Women's Basketball Heads to Virginia for Weekend of Conference Play

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The William Peace University women's basketball team is set for a weekend of conference action beginning Saturday December 6, against Mary Baldwin University at 2:00 p.m. With a quick turn around, the Pacers will take on the Cougars of Averett University the following day, December 7 at 1:00 p.m.

The Pacers (1-6) are returning to play after a tough loss to Ferrum College on Wednesday, losing by just nine points to the top-seeded Panthers. The Pacers are led by sophomore, Mikayla Ray who is second in the USA South Conference for rebounds pre game (13.3) and leads the team with 16.1 points per game. Sophomore Jayde Grant contributes a consistent 10.1 points per game and five rebounds per contest. Freshman Deja Umstead has taken on a  more aggressive offensive role, bringing in 12.1 points per game to go along with three assists per contest.

Looking towards Saturday, Mary Baldwin University (1-9) enters the match on a five-game losing streak. Having already faced two conference opponents, the Fighting Squirrels are (0-2) in conference play. Mary Baldwin's offense is led by sophomore, Ayana Nedd who is averaging 11 points per game.Senior forward, Nicole Blackburn leads the team pulling down 9.5 rebounds per contest.
