Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3

KNOXVILLE, TN -- The WPU volleyball team dropped three games on the road at the Maryville College Volleyball Tournament. The Pacers fall to (2-9) on the season as they prepare to head into conference play.

Mount St. Joseph - Friday, September 15 3:30 p.m.
The Pacers fell to the Lions of Mount St. Joseph with a final score of 3 sets to 1, 20-25, 25-18, 23-25, 20-25. WPU volleyball carried the first portion of set one until a 10-0 run put the Lions of Mount St. Joseph up 16-9. A kill by Shanice Fraizer would put an end to the run but soon the Lions would answer bringing the score to 19-10. After trading points, the Pacers went on a 5-0 run cutting the Lion lead to five (23-18). Unfortunately, the rally would be too late as Mount St. Joseph University secured set one, 25-20.

Set two would finish in favor of the Pacers with a back and forth match against the Lions. Sophomore, Mya Parks would lead the way with 4 kills in this set. Set three would mark a close finish 25-23 with the Lions victorious. Set four would host seven ties and eight lead changes before the Lions would close out the final battle, 25-20. Mya Parks would finish the game with 14 kills and 16 digs, while senior, Lindsay Alford, would lead the team with six blocks. Senior, Liana Solomon contributed 25 assists.

Maryville - Saturday, September 16, 12:00 p.m.
WPU continued their tournament on Saturday, beginning with a game against Maryville College. The Scots of Maryville would fight off a William Peace rally in a 3-1 victory. The Scots took the win on day two of the MC Invitational, 20-25, 19-25, 25-19, 28-30.

The two teams would battle back-and-fourth, however, after losing the first two sets, the Pacers would rally back to win the third set 25-19. Set four would be a match for the books as the Scots would find themselves down 23-21 late in the set. The Scots would battle, knotting the game at 23-all, before the Pacers would get set point, 24-23, off a kill by senior, Lindsay Alford. Maryville fought off four set points, while the Pacers would fight off one of their own. With the score tied at 28-all. A Maryville kill followed by a William Peace error would end the match, 30-28. Alford would finish the game with 17 kills, Solomon would contribute 37 assists, and Mya Parks would notch 21 digs.

Covenant - Saturday, September 16, 1:30 p.m.
In the final game of the tournament, the Pacers would take on another set of Scots in Covenant College. The Scots would take the win in a 3-0 sweep over WPU, 23-25, 8-25, 14-25. After a strong first set where the Pacers came up two points shy to Covenant, the wear and tear of the Pacers limited roster would come into play as the Pacers would drop the second and third sets by more than a 10 point differential. With the tournament completed, Carson Williams finished the tournament with 51 digs and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.

The Pacers move forward to prepare for conference play, their next opponent coming in North Carolina Wesleyan College (2-5). The game will be hosted by NCWC in Rocky Mount, NC, on Tuesday, September 19, at 7:00 p.m. The Battling Bishops are coming off of a 3-0 victory against Johnson and Wales, after facing a five-game losing streak.
