Box Score 2 DANVILLE, N.C. -- The Pacers split their double header against Averett University Saturday afternoon, to kick off their 3-game series against the Cougars.
Game 1
The Pacers were able to capitalize on runs scored in the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 8th innings, and
Trevor Pence threw 6 scoreless innings to give the Pacers a 13-3 series opening win in Danville. William Peace racked up 13 runs on 12 hits, including four extra base hits.
Sean Finneran (2-4, 2 RBI, 3 R, 3B),
Alex Scott (2-3, 2 RBI, 2B, 2 R, 3 BB),
Alec Allred (1-4, 2B, 2 R), and
Tyler Tilson (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI) all picked up extra bases in game one.
Nathan Holt, and
Will Cunningham also combined to go 3-8 with 2 RBI.
Trevor Pence delivered a clean 6 innings of scoreless work, while striking out 4.
Luke Drancsak and
Coleman Greene relieved Pence, and only allowed 3 hits through 3 combined innings of work out of the bullpen.
Game 2
Game two saw the Pacers get on top early again, as
Alec Allred knocked in
Alex Scott after his double to put the Pacers up 1-0. After the Cougars tied up the score,
Mikey Anerton singled in a run to put Peace up 2-1, and an RBI ground out from
Nathan Holt gave the Pacers a 2 run edge. The Cougars took advantage of the game with some small ball, as they would score 4 runs with only one hit leaving the infield dirt in the 5th inning to go ahead 5-3. Two more Cougar runs would cross the plate in the 6th, giving Averett a 7-3 lead. Anerton would tack on an RBI double in the 7th to cut the lead to 7-4, but the Cougars would add one more run to lead for good, 8-4.
Sean Finneran was 2-5 with a double,
Alex Scott added two doubles and scored three times, Allred was 1-4 with an RBI single, and Anerton finished 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI.
Chase Roupp made his first conference start on the mound for the Pacers, going 4.2 innings, striking out three and walking none.
Cameron High and
Ben Brann would combine to throw the final 2.1 innings, combining for four strikeouts.
The rubber match between the Pacers and the Cougars will begin at 1:00pm at Owen-Fulton field in Danville, Virginia.
