Pacers Roll Past Bulldogs for Third Straight Win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CARY, NC -- William Peace baseball continued its winning ways this week by sweeping a midweek double header against the Dean College Bulldogs.  The Pacers have now won three games in a row, and have matched their win total from last season just half way through the 2017 campaign.

GAME 1: Pacers 6 Bulldogs 4

The Pacer bats were hot early and never looked back.  Alex Scott, Tyler Tilson, and Trey Hogan all had RBI singles in the first inning to give the Pacers a 5-0 lead, but the Bulldogs answered with three runs in the second inning, cutting the lead to 5-3.  Easton Payton added an insurance run with an RBI single in the 4th, which gave the Pacers much needed cushion, as the Bulldogs would tack on a run in the 5th, making the score 6-4.

The pitching staff had a collaborative effort to keep the Bulldog bats in check. Braxton Lamm got his first win of the season with Freshman DC Russ picking up his first save of the year.  John Speight and Cameron High combined for 4 innings of work, allowing only one run between the pair.

GAME 2: Pacers 10 Bulldogs 1

Game 2 proved that the Pacer bats were no match for the Bulldogs. Luke Westmoreland had his first start for Peace this year after serving as the team's Closer following Tommy John surgery. Westmoreland had 5K and only gave up 1 hit and 0 runs in his 4 innings on the mound.  Luke Dranscak, and Coleman Greene teamed up to throw the final three frames of the contest, striking out 3 Dean College hitters, and allowing a run.

The Pacer offense was led by Kyle Cranmer who went 3-3, with 3 RBIs, 2 runs, and a stolen base. Easton Payton went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and Will Cunningham also went 2-3 with 2 RBI.  Alex Scott and Sean Finneran both finished 1-3, each with an RBI.

The Pacers improved to 10-10 overall on the year, and will face one more non-conference opponent in Lynchburg College tomorrow on the road.  USA South play will pick back up on Friday, when the Pacers visit Ferrum for their first conference road series.
