HOLLY SPRINGS, NC -- The Pacer opened up Conference play against NC Wesleyan, going 1-1 on the day. Game one featured a dominant pitching performance from ace Trevor Pence. Pence pitched a complete game, allowing zero runs, on five hits, with three walks and six strikeouts.
The Pacers were also able to get the bats going in support of Pence. Alex Scott who went (4-4) on the day with three RBI's, got things going for the Pacers in the bottom of the first with an RBI triple. The Pacers would tag on 4 more runs in the second, third, fifth and sixth inning thanks to two more RBI's from Alex Scott, one RBI from Nathan Holt and one run off of a hit batter in the fifth. The Pacers defeated the NC Wesleyan Bishops 5-0 in the first of two games.
In the second game, NC Wesleyan got the bats going and got out on top of the Pacers early. The Pacers answered back with one run in the seventh thanks to an Alex Scott sac fly, but they weren't able to mount a comeback thanks to a quality outing by Bishops pitcher Ryan Grant. The Bishops added five more runs in the top of the ninth and ousted the Pacers by a score 11-1.
Tomorrow the Pacers and the Bishops will return to the diamond at 1p.m to close out the series at Holly Springs N. Main Athletic Complex.
