DANVILLE, V.A. -- The eighth place William Peace baseball team (13-17, 4-8) will travel to Danville, Virginia to take on the Cougars of Averett University. The Cougars currently sit in eleventh place in the USA South, with a conference record of 2-10, and an overall record of 7-21. The Pacers are coming off a series loss to Covenant College, but salvaged the series with a walk-off win in game three.
Conference play has been good to the Pacer offense, as five hitters are sitting above a .300 batting average in conference games.
Alex Scott (.367, 3 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 16 RBI) is having a break out conference season, and looks to continue to lead the Pacers.
Tyler Tilson,
Sean Finneran,
Alec Allred, and
Nathan Holt are all hitting above .300, and are all posting on base percentages above .300 as well.
The Pacer pitching staff will also have to make key contributions against the Cougars to make a final push towards the first conference tournament berth in program history. Currently,
Trevor Pence leads the staff with three conference wins, posting a 2.59 ERA, while striking out 26 in 31.1 innings pitched. The bullpen has been coming together as of late, as
Coleman Greene had the bright spot last weekend, throwing a perfect inning and a third to pick up the win against Covenant.
The series schedule begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 1, at 12:00 p.m. and concludes Sunday, April 2, with a single game beginning at 1:00 p.m. For those traveling to Danville, please be aware of the NASCAR race traffic. The USA South has also granted the baseball program access to their Instagram page as part of the #usasouthtakeover. Please follow @usa_south on Instagram for behind the scenes access.
