Box Score 2 GAME 1
Covenant took advantage of two early runs to take the first game away from the Pacers. Scoring a run in the 3rd, and another in the 4th, the Scots were able to quiet the William Peace bats. Alex Scott got the Pacers on the board after a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded, cutting the score to 2-1. Covenant added a third run after an RBI single in the top of the 8th. Will Cunningham provided another run for the Pacers by way of a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning. The Pacers had a chance to tie the game in the 9th, after a lead off single from Cullen Cicotte, and a Trevor Nanney sacrifice bunt that moved pinch runner Jonathan Rhew into scoring position. Nathan Holt ripped a single through the left side, but Rhew was thrown out at home on a close play.
Tyler Tilson was 2-3, Holt was 2-4, and Scott and Cunningham knocked in the only two runs for the Pacers.
Trevor Pence took another start past the 7th inning, finishing with 6 strikeouts, and allowing 3 earned runs. Ben Brann threw a scoreless inning and two-thirds, adding 2 strikeouts.
Game 2
The second game again saw the Scots take an early lead, by scoring 5 runs in the first. Pacer starter Cam High settled in after the first, and only allowed one more run through the next 5 innings. Trevor Nanney put Peace on the board with an RBI single in the 2nd inning, and after a Covenant run scored in the 4th, Kyle Cranmer and Alex Scott blasted back to back home runs, a Pacer baseball first, to cut the deficit to 4.
The Pacer offense picked up a much needed spark from a Scott RBI single, a bases loaded triple from Nathan Holt, and Cullen Cicotte sacrifice fly, putting the Pacers ahead 8-7.
Chase Roupp threw a scoreless top of the 8th, ending the inning on a strikeout with Covenant runners in scoring position. The top of the 9th was one to forget for the Pacer defense, as the Scots took advantage of 2 errors, scoring 2 runs, giving them a one run lead.
Nick Cole's one out double did not give the Pacers a run in the 9th, as they would fall 9-8.
Alex Scott was 2-5 with a homerun and 2 RBI, Kyle Cranmer added a homerun and an RBI. Nathan Holt went 1-4, with e a 3 RBI triple, and Cullen Cicotte was 1-2 with an RBI.
Cam High finished with 6 innings pitched, and 3 strikeouts. Chase Roupp's two scoreless innings out of the bullpen kept the Pacers in the game. Braxton Lamm picked up his first loss in 2/3 of an inning, without letting up an earned run.
The Pacers drop to 12-17 overall, and 3-8 in USA South play. Game three will take place at 1:00pm, at the USA National Training Facility in Cary.
