NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The WPU women's volleyball team traveled to Newport News, Virginia Tuesday evening to take on a non-conference opponent, Christopher Newport University. It proved to be a challenging match for the Pacers, considering the division three university is ranked 24th in the nation. After tonight's match, the Captains maintain a strong record of (18-3) overall, while WPU holds a current record of (10-13).
CNU managed to significantly dominate the first two sets against the Pacers with a result of (25-12) in the first set, and (25-15) in the second set. In the final set, WPU competed strongly against the Captains, not allowing them to take a significant lead until the end of the third set neared. The Pacers battled hard, but Christopher Newport University won all three sets during the match.
Carson Williams had 10 digs for the Pacers while
Sha'Nice Frazier and
Hailey Stout contributed five kills a piece.
Sarah Scott notched 10 assists.
The Pacers will now prepare for their match-up against NC Wesleyan on Thursday, October 12th. This will be a home conference match for WPU at 7:00 p.m. The Bishops are (5-13) overall in their season.
