Box Score RALEIGH – The William Peace University women's basketball team came up just short to Huntingdon College (2-0) in the final of the Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament. The Pacers (1-2) and the Hawks were in a contentious match for nearly the entire game, but the Hawks emerged victors, 76-69.
 
Tyler Mercer led the Pacers with 17 points against Huntingdon. She also grabbed six rebounds, assisted on three field goals and went four for four from the charity stripe. Whitney Walker made nine of ten from the free-throw line and finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Nadine Ealey went into double figures for the third consecutive game with 10 points. She recorded a block and two steals.
 
Jenna Dorman was excellent for the Hawks with a game-high 27 points and 12 rebounds. Juliette Harp added 18 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The game started off very tight with Huntingdon taking the lead early but the Pacers came back to tie it multiple times and eventually took the lead before halftime. WPU went into the locker room with 38-36 lead over Huntingdon.
 
Huntingdon outscored WPU by four in the third quarter to take a two-point lead into the fourth. The Hawks were able to close it out and extend the lead to seven over the final few minutes.
 
Despite a severe disparity in height, the Pacers out-rebounded the Hawks on the offense boards 15-14 and overall 39-37.
 
William Peace will look to bounce back against Salem College in the Hermann Athletic Center at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
