Box Score RALEIGH – The William Peace University women's basketball throttled Berry College 78-57 in the first round of the Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament to pick up the team's first win of the season. William Peace will play against Huntingdon College in the final tomorrow at 3 p.m.
The Pacers (1-1), coached by first-year coach
Brandy Smith, enjoyed another great night out by
Nadine Ealey. Ealey filled up the box score with 12 points, six assists, five rebounds, four steals, and a block in only 21 minutes.
The Pacers had two other players in double figures.
Susannah Sykes had 12 points and
Whitney Walker scored 10.
Makayla Ray grabbed 12 rebounds and tallied seven points in a solid performance.
As a whole William Peace was efficient in scoring with a 55.2 field goal percentage. WPU also forced Berry into committing 27 turnovers.
The Pacers stretched out to a 22-14 lead in the first quarter and extended the lead to 43-25 at halftime. William Peace outscored Berry in every quarter besides the fourth in which Vikings made a short run and trimmed the lead. The Pacers put the game away with decent free-throw shooting down the stretch.
Huntingdon (1-0) got the better of Hilbert College (1-1) 61-48 in the first game. Hilbert will take on Berry in the consolation match at 1 p.m.
The championship game against Huntingdon College at 3 p.m. will be live streamed and
