During a 23-year tenure leading Peace, Dr. S. David Frazier helped build the College’s academic and athletic programs. By the end of his service as president, Peace had the highest Scholastic Aptitude Test scores among the country’s two-year colleges.  He enhanced Peace’s endowment by approximately $14 million, and established endowments to support the library, faculty development, merit and work scholarships, visiting scholars, and the concert and lecture series.  Dr. Frazier launched Peace’s honors, independent study and internship programs. The size of campus doubled under his administration, with seven new buildings constructed and all other buildings renovated.

During his term as president, Dr. Frazier was Peace’s most loyal athletics fan.  His efforts made the college a leader in intercollegiate athletics for women in the south.  Peace enjoyed the success of nationally ranked teams in tennis and basketball during this era. In 1977, Peace’s basketball team ranked second nationally, the highest for any team in the school’s history and finished runner-up in the national junior college tournament.

Dr. Frazier actively participated in student-athlete recruitment and was a steadfast supporter at most athletics events.  He celebrated and shared the joy when Peace teams won and comforted team members when the suffered disappointment.  His legacy remains active in today’s programs with the annual presentation of the Frazier Cup to the student who best exemplifies the characteristics of the term student-athlete.

Dr. Frazier was inducted into the Peace College Athletics Hall of Fame on May 16, 2009.
