Softball Drops Conference Opener to NC Wesleyan

RALEIGH, N.C. - William Peace softball dropped a pair of games to NC Wesleyan on Tuesday to open conference play, moving to 11-9 overall and 0-2 in USA South play.

In the opening game, the Pacers battled but fell 6-4. Peace scored first in the bottom of the first inning when Alli Bordwine hit an RBI double to score Gracee Greer and give the Pacers an early lead.

NC Wesleyan responded in the third inning to tie the game before taking the lead in the fifth with a four run inning. They added another run in the sixth to extend the lead to 6-2.

The Pacers made a comback in the seventh but didn't end up being enough. Reagan Stewart led off the inning with a double before Trinity Whitt brought her home with an RBI single. Kinley Jordan followed with an RBI double to score Isabelle Olson and cut the lead to two.

Jordan led the offense with two hits and an RBI, while Bordwine and Stewart each added a hit and drove in a run. Stewart took the loss in the circle, striking out six across four innings, while Savannah Paul provided three innings of relief.

In the second game, NC Wesleyan used a big second inning to pull away early and went on to secure a 10-1 victory.

The Bishops scored five runs in the second inning and added two more in the third to extend their lead. Peace was limited offensively throughout the game but broke through in the sixth inning when Allison Burlew drove in a run to put the Pacers on the board.

Gracee Greer and Isabelle Olson each recorded a hit for the Pacers, who finished with two hits in the contest. Kimberly Bordeaux took the loss in the circle, while Samantha Cusic and Haley Joyce combined to provide relief innings.

William Peace will look to bounce back on Saturday, March 28 on Alumni Day as the Pacers host Methodist for a doubleheader.
