RALEIGH, N.C. - William Peace dropped its opening game of the USA South Tournament, falling 3-2 to N.C. Wesleyan on Thursday afternoon. The Pacers battled throughout but were unable to complete the late comeback.
Wesleyan scored first in the first inning and added two more in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. Peace responded in the sixth, stringing together three hits to score two runs. Reagan Stewart drove in a run on a ground out, and Isabelle Olson followed with an RBI to cut the lead to one.
The Pacers threatened late but were unable to score the tying run. Gracee Greer and Taylor Byrd each recorded hits in the rally, while Olson added a hit and an RBI.
Reagan Stewart allowed three runs on six hits with five strikeouts on the mound.
William Peace will face #7 Methodist in an elimination game on Friday, May 1 at 11 a.m. at Meredith College. With a win, the Pacers will advance to play at 3 p.m. against the loser of #2 Meredith and #3 N.C. Wesleyan.
