Softball Sweeps Methodist on Alumni Day

RALEIGH, N.C. - William Peace softball earned a conference home sweep over Methodist on Saturday, taking both games on Alumni Day to improve to 13-9 overall and 2-2 in USA South play.

The Pacers opened the day with an 8-6 victory, using a late comeback to secure the win. After trailing early, Peace tied the game in the fourth before taking the lead in the fifth on an RBI double from Allison Burlew.

Methodist answered with three runs in the sixth to regain the lead, but the Pacers responded in the bottom half of the inning. Cierra Lear delivered an RBI triple before Reagan Stewart followed with a two-run home run to put Peace back in front. Alli Bordwine added an RBI double later in the inning to extend the lead to 8-6.

Burlew led the offense with four hits and an RBI, while Lear added two hits and two RBI. Stewart contributed with a home run and two RBI while also earning the win in the circle, striking out nine across a complete game effort.

In the second game, the Pacers used a strong start and late-game heroics to complete the sweep with a 13-12 walkoff victory.

Peace erupted for six runs in the first inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Allison Burlew and Taylor Byrd, along with a sacrifice from Alli Bordwine. The Pacers continued to add on throughout the game, including a solo home run from Isabelle Olson in the second inning.

After building a lead, Methodist rallied late with a six-run seventh inning to take a 12-11 advantage. The Pacers answered in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases before Burlew delivered a two-RBI double down the left field line to walk it off and secure the sweep.

Burlew led the offense once again with three hits and four RBI, while Olson recorded three hits and two RBI. Lear reached base multiple times and scored three runs as the Pacers totaled 15 hits in the win.

William Peace returns to action on Wednesday, April 1 as the Pacers host Meredith College for a doubleheader.
