RALEIGH, N.C. - William Peace softball split a home doubleheader against Sweet Briar on Sunday, falling in the opening game before bouncing back with a strong win in the second to move to 11-7 on the season.
Peace dropped game one with a score of 11-3, but found some offense in the sixth inning when Reagan Stewart delivered a two-RBI single to score Cierra Lear and Gracee Greer. Lear added another RBI in the seventh inning, finishing with two hits in the game.
The Pacers totaled five hits, with Allison Burlew and Marissa Fuller also recording hits. Stewart took the loss in the circle after striking out four across six innings, while Haley Joyce pitched in relief.
In the second game, William Peace responded with a 10-2 victory, using a strong fifth inning to secure the split.
The Pacers scored first in the opening inning and added two more in the second on a two-RBI single from Reagan Stewart to take a 3-0 lead.
After Sweet Briar cut into the lead, Peace broke the game open in the fifth inning with a seven-run frame. Madison Taylor drove in a run with a single before Trinity Whitt followed with an RBI. Cierra Lear added a two-RBI single, and Allison Burlew capped the inning with a two-run single as the Pacers pulled away.
Stewart led the offense with two hits and two RBI, while Lear and Burlew each drove in multiple runs. The Pacers drew nine walks and capitalized on defensive errors to finish with 10 runs on six hits.
Kimberly Bordeaux earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven across five innings.
William Peace opens conference play on Tuesday, March 24 as the Pacers host NC Wesleyan for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. in Raleigh.
